And that is why it is still used today to punish bad girls. Go to youtube.com and type in cornertime or timeout and you will easily find clips about cornertime.
For example type in:
timeout girls
Then you can see a clip of two young ladies beeing put to the corner for beeing naughty commented offscreen by their mom. The older one is showing an attitude because of beeing put to the corner. The third and oldest sister is sttting on the couch drawing while her sisters have to do cornertime....
What I liked most was this sentence of her mom: 'If this doesnot work I will have to think about other measures....'
Wow!!!! What is she talking/thinking about?
Maybe next time she will be shown in the corner like this:
Will teach her a lesson. For sure
There are other clips of cornertime still used to day. Go there and find out for yourself.

Photo 1 - so utterly delightful & realistic.
Yes, photo 1 was exactly how it gotten done. Oh my! How lovely is that? (in retrospect, naturally, I hasten to add!!!) I was born late 1950s into a normal strict, Ol' fashioned family where corporal punishment was the only option deemed necessary: this was how it ended up, knickers down & cane to bare botty. It was normal & necessary. And frequent!
This photo evokes real visceral memories for me, of punishment on bare buttocks with the cane from our strict, loving mother. My sister & I wore those exact same 1950s panties, due south of the tender target!! :-)
...all large, cotton-soft, conservative & dazzling-white, traditional knickers. And of course, they always gotten pulled down when we needed to feel the cane (12 strokes we gotten!!) on our bare, sensitive-skinned backsides for naughty behaviour.
Oh my! I vividly remember how it was all just normal, routine, good, strict parenting and par for the course back in yore. PC really was light years' away. Sound whoopings on bare bottoms at home were never once questioned. They were advocated by all n sundry & were simply guaranteed for daughters in that era.
